On Wisdom

On Wisdom and Her Words

Listen as Wisdom calls out!

Hear as understanding raises her voice!

2On the hilltop along the road,

she takes her stand at the crossroads.

3By the gates at the entrance to the town,

on the road leading in, she cries aloud,

4“I call to you, to all of you!

I raise my voice to all people.

5You simple people, use good judgment.

You foolish people, show some understanding.

6Listen to me! For I have important things to tell you.

Proverbs 8:1-6 NLT

Wisdom is found at four places...

On the hill tops of life: this is a time to listen well, make good observations of the world below, and save it for the valley. A higher perspective will help you in life on the lower plains.

At the crossroads and intersections of life: when there are choices to be made. When we have to choose the way we want to go in life. The encouragement and promise is that when there are many choices at the crossroads, wisdom is there to speak to you. She will never leave you or forsake you, but will you take the time to seek her counsel and ask for her advice? That’s the question.

At the gates of the city: Those places when you are making public transactions, judging a case with your neighbor, and presenting your proposals to the leaders of the city. There wisdom will be present. This is a promise. She will lead you and guide you.

On the way: So while you are on the way to The Hilltop, The Gates of the city, or to The Crossroads of life, and while you’re on you way after being at those places, wisdom, She will be with you there too — on the way. This too is a promise.

So there is never a time in life when She is not near you, when Wisdom can’t be found. Seek her like riches, need her like fame, want her like bread, savor her like meat, and delight in her as in choice fruits drizzled with honey.

Wisdom is not only found while sitting still listening. Wisdom is found while doing. When you sit, while you are standing, where you are walking, and while you are going, wisdom is with you. Listen to her and keep her close. She is near you. On your lips.

Father I confess that you’re always speaking, but I am not always listening. Father wait on you to act on your mercy and bring me to the place of hearing your voice. Open my ears, heart, and mind to receive again from you. Forgive me for trampling on the Wisdom you’ve scattered on my path like bread crumbs. May I pick it up like manna every morning and be satisfied with it all day long. Never grumbling for meat. Amen
